Innovative Alternative Energy Delivery

Through smart energy policies and innovative implementation of technology, we’re meeting the long-term needs of our growing economy and the everyday needs of the people who live in our communities.

We have a history of innovation that includes being one of the first utilities in the nation to use combined-cycle gas generation. Today, we’re a leader in alternative energy technologies, being the first utility in Oklahoma to offer wind power in 2003, executing the largest U.S. deployment of smart meters in 2012 and the first utility in Oklahoma to develop a universal solar farm.

Wind

Wind power today accounts for approximately 10 percent of OG&E’s generating capacity, and through our wind developments we’ve helped Oklahoma become the nation’s second largest producer of wind. We’ve built high-voltage transmission lines to western and northwestern Oklahoma, which deliver renewable energy from wind-rich parts of the state to customers in the more densely populated areas of central Oklahoma and elsewhere. As an OG&E customer, you can invest in wind for your home or business.

Solar

In July 2015, we installed the 2.5 MW Mustang Solar project at our Mustang Energy Center, Oklahoma’s first universal solar farm. The 2.5 MW facility has enough generation capacity to power about 500 homes. And during 2017 we sited a second, 10 MW solar power plant in Covington, Oklahoma, which has enough capacity to power almost 10,000 homes. We currently offer customers the opportunity to purchase solar power from these solar power plants.

Electric Vehicles

We’re charged up about electric vehicles, adding EVs to our vehicle fleet and placing charging stations at key facilities in order to promote this emerging and growing technology. EVs can help lower the emissions contributions from mobile sources, especially in our cities. Learn more about EVs at: OGE Electric Vehicles

We’re also evaluating electricity storage and other emerging technologies for the industry.
